Backups

NOTE: This section assumes you know how to access your control panel.

Uploading is moving a copy of a file on your computer to ours, where your web site will be located.

Downloading is moving a copy of a file from our computer to yours. (You should not normally have to do this, as you will keep the original on your machine, and do all editing on it there.)

I Backup your own home computer files

Use a backup program on a regular basis so that you don't lose any of your files. Keep the backups on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis on different drives than the one you are backing up. Removable media are best, as you can maintain several backups.

II Use our backups of your website

WebNameHost creates daily, weekly, and monthly backups of all the data in your website. of course, each daily backup is overwritten the next time that day of the week comes around, and likewise for the weekly and monthly ones. Here's how you can make use of these:

1. Log on to your control panel.
2. Look in the file management section for "Backup" and click on this.
3. You will be taken to the backup manager.
4. Here, you can download the current day's backup to your home computer by clicking on Download Today's Home Backup.
5. If you have one or more of these backups on your home computer, you can upload one back to your site by clicking on the first Browse button, selecting the backup file from your computer that you want restored to your site, and then clicking on upload and following any subsequent instructions to replace your website with the one in the backup.
6. If all else fails, you can try asking us to restore your site from a daily, weekly or monthly backup, but we provide no guarantees this will work, and if you ask more than once in a long while, we will have to charge you $100 the next time.
